Helping small business owners, virtual assistants, and creative entrepreneurs grow their business.
Hi, I'm Tara! I'm a multi-passionate business and marketing coach.
Launching a podcast isn’t an easy project, and I knew that going into it about one year ago when I officially launched The Introvertpreneur Podcast. It’s been a really great experience, and it’s something I always wanted to do, but in all honesty, never thought I actually would do. If you’re thinking about starting a podcast, here are the 7 biggest tips and lessons that I learned from my first year of podcasting and being a podcast host.
One of the things I am most thankful for was deciding to hire a podcast launch manager. I knew going into it that launching a podcast was a big project, and it wasn’t one that I wanted to do alone. Sometimes, these are the things that make the best investment and the most sense when investing in your business.
With my podcast launch manager and team, I batch recorded the first 4 episodes, created the cover art, and approved all of the essential pieces, such as the show description and which platform to use (we went with Libsyn).
If you have the money to hire a launch manager, I strongly recommend it. If you don’t, I would still make sure you plan ahead of time for your launch, at least 2-3 months out. We also had a ‘launch team’, people from my email list who offered to listen to the first 4 episodes and provide feedback, which was a fun way to generate excitement about the upcoming podcast launch.
As I mentioned above, I knew it was hard work going into it, but wow, is that an understatement. The launch is a lot of work, the weekly episodes and management is a lot of work, and growing it is a lot of work. It’s important to know that a podcast is not a quick marketing strategy unless you already have a super huge audience.
If you have a small to medium-sized audience, it will take you some time to grow your podcast. That’s normal, but it’s important to stay consistent. Daily, weekly, or bi-weekly episodes – whatever you choose, just make sure you’re consistent so your listeners can know what to expect.
One of the big benefits of a podcast that I didn’t even think about when deciding to start one is how many relationships you can build with your guests and what that can result in. It is an amazing collaborative tool, which as an introvert, is great because it allows you to build those relationships through one-on-one conversations.
Through my guests, I’ve been referred clients, affiliates, speaking opportunities, bundle opportunities, etc.
They are also usually some of the first people that come to my mind when I need to send a referral somewhere!
I love learning and absorbing all of the knowledge I can from others (hello, course junkie, here!), and getting to interview guests allows me to not only get their expert knowledge on questions my audience wants to know but also questions I want the answers to! It’s like you get insider access to pick their brain and have an in-depth Q&A session with your favorite people.
I’m always one to batch as much as possible, and podcast-related tasks are perfect for batching! You can batch plan your episodes monthly or quarterly or even do all of the recordings for an entire month in one day. Talking exhausts me sometimes, so I don’t batch the recordings too much, but I try to do as many interviews as I can within a week, so I can avoid booking any for the next few weeks.
Whatever you can batch and what will work for you is something you’ll figure out along the way.
A podcast workflow is so essential for staying consistent with your episodes and promotion. I love a good workflow, and because a podcast episode is a recurring event, it’s easy to create a solid workflow for yourself or your team. I use ClickUp for the episode tasks and Dubsado for my guest booking workflow.
What are the steps you take for each episode? Everything from outlining the episode to recording to promoting on social media – whatever those tasks look like for you… that’s your workflow!

The great thing about podcasting is that it creates long-form content on a consistent basis. That makes it a fantastic option for repurposing your podcast episodes and content onto other channels. Don’t just promote your podcast episode the day or week that it goes live. Repurpose it and use it later, too!
Hopefully, these tips have helped. We’ve also had some amazing guests on the podcast who shared their best podcast-related marketing tips, so check out those episodes below:
