Helping small business owners, virtual assistants, and creative entrepreneurs grow their business.
Hi, I'm Tara! I'm a multi-passionate business and marketing coach.
As a wedding photographer, you should know that Pinterest is where it’s at but how do you really use Pinterest effectively? The wedding audience on Pinterest is HUGE! I’ve put together my top tips on how to use Pinterest as a wedding photographer as a part of your marketing strategy.
The first important step to increasing your views and reach to future brides using Pinterest is to set up a business account and claim your website. Claiming your website on Pinterest allows all pins from your domain to be connected to your profile, so if someone visits your latest blog post and pins a few of your images, your Pinterest account will be connected to that pin. Doing this also helps you understand your Pinterest analytics and what types of images are hitting the best with your audience.
Plus, a business account has other cool profile features, too, and overall makes your wedding photography business look more professional when a bride-to-be comes across it.
Having a wide variety of optimized boards that are of interest to your audience is important. Don’t worry about it if a couple boards are similar, that just means you can schedule the same pin to multiple boards (on different days, of course, you want to space them out for the same pin!)
Here is a list of possible board ideas I’ve put together that are specific for wedding photographers:

Most wedding photographers love to travel, but with that in mind, you should also target cities that are close to you. It’s likely that if a bride is looking for wedding inspiration and comes across one of your gorgeous images only to discover your pretty local to her, well, it’s a good bet that she’ll be reaching out to see if you are available.
Have a specific board for your best pins and images called “(city) Wedding Photographer”
Add the following after your name/business name in your Name field on your Pinterest profile “(city) Wedding Photographer” and add a mention of it in your bio text, as well.
Tag some of your pins using local hashtags. For example, if I was a wedding photographer from Brooklyn, NY I might add a few of these hashtags to some of my pins (or better yet, rotate them between pins):
#brooklyn #brooklynNY #newyork #newyorkcity #nyc #nycweddings #nycwedding #newyorkwedding #newyorkweddings #newyorkbride #nycbride #nybride #Manhattan #nywedding #nyweddings #nyphotographer #nyphotography #nycphotography #nycphotographer
And so on! Hopefully that gives you an idea on localized hashtags to use to target brides in your area.
It’s important to post your own content, yes, but you don’t want to make it so that is ALL you are pinning to your account. You want to give brides some value to follow you, to repin your pins, and engage with your profile. The best way to do that is to provide them with a lot of good info that they are looking for. Things like wedding blog posts are a good resource to post, along with your own content, and will definitely help to get more eyes on your pins from that point on.
Group boards aren’t dead, and especially not in the wedding category! Brides are definitely one of the best target audiences known for perusing a group board filled with a variety of wedding pins from all types of accounts (photographers, wedding planners, bloggers, venues, caters, designers and so many more).
Finding good group boards can be tough, and sometimes it’s even tougher to get an invite from the board owner, but if you follow the steps (if any) listed in the board description you should be able to find a few really good group boards to join and pin your content to.
To get you started, here is a list of a few really good wedding niche group boards that are currently open to new contributors:
If you are a busy photographer, between handling client inquiries, editing images, and making your images shine in blog posts, you might be thinking that you don’t have the time to really utilize Pinterest like this. If you don’t want to add one more thing to your to do list, you can hire your Pinterest Management out to a Pinterest specialist or virtual assistant. Personally, I love working with wedding photographers because I have experience and love for the industry through my handmade jewelry business. If you want to work with someone who gets your industry and understands your target market, feel free to reach out and we can get your Pinterest account moving in the right direction to improve your reach, website clicks and interested clients.
