Helping small business owners, virtual assistants, and creative entrepreneurs grow their business.
Hi, I'm Tara! I'm a multi-passionate business and marketing coach.
As an introvert who is a service provider, the biggest hurdle you might have when growing your business is getting more clients. The main reason is that you are focusing on energy-draining extrovert-friendly strategies for finding clients instead of attracting clients to you. Extroverts are used to the idea of meeting people, networking, and making contacts. They thrive on it. Introverts are not built the same way. And, it’s completely okay to do things a little bit differently!
I’m a huge introvert, and I suffer from social anxiety. But I was able to book out my 1:1 services within a few months. I’m not saying that to brag. I’m sharing that to show you what is possible when you focus on your strengths. My strengths are:
I will share with you how I used those strengths to build my business. You can use them too!
As I always say, clarity equals confidence. It will be much easier to find and attract dream clients when you are clear on what you do, what you offer, and how it benefits them. If you’re not clear on what you want, I encourage you to listen to this podcast episode where I specifically talked about how clarity equals confidence.
You should know your dream clients better than they know themselves. That will make selling feel less like ‘selling’ and more like natural, authentic conversations. As you work to attract your dream clients, you will inevitably make mistakes and run into roadblocks that stop your momentum. That’s when it becomes super important to be able to pivot and remember your clarity.
You should be able to get clear on:
Who needs this service? How will it benefit them?
Who are they? How are they feeling right now? Why would they want to work with you?
When a dream client hires someone for the services you offer, it’s less about skills and more about personality. Don’t be afraid to show your face and the real you. Clients hire people, not robots, which is why your personal brand is essential as a service provider.
You will provide a service, but even as an independent contractor, you’ll be a part of a virtual team.
Let your ideal clients get to know you! That not only helps them but also helps you know that you’re repelling people who aren’t a good fit. That’s why I talk about my brand values a lot. I don’t want someone on my team or as a client who doesn’t align with those same values.
We already talked about your offers a little bit, but let’s dig into them a bit further.
Your packages should do most of the work for you if they are laid out and explained properly. I was booked out as a virtual assistant without any discovery or sales calls! All of my clients signed on as a client through email only. The way I was able to do that was to have a personal brand, packages that were clear, and all information available on my website.
They didn’t need to chat face-to-face to book my services and work together! Sometimes as an introvert (especially if you hate sales calls), you need to set those boundaries, and it’s okay to do that.
The main point is: that you CAN be successful without discovery calls.
Once your packages, services, and dream clients have clarity… the next step is to market yourself effectively. The best way for introverts to do this is to focus on attraction marketing vs. outbound marketing. Being in hustle mode and constantly searching for your next client can be exhausting, especially for introverts. That’s why long-term attraction strategies are better suited for us!
What am I talking about here? Things like focusing on your content vs. engagement on social media, Pinterest, blogging, and email marketing.
If you want to learn more about these introvert-friendly marketing methods, sign up for my free webinar, where I walk through them in more detail. You’ll also learn how to choose your marketing methods and how you can make them work together. You need to identify your strengths and weaknesses as an introvert and use your strengths to your advantage.
If you are an introvert, nurturing current leads will be easier than constantly finding new leads. Focus on nurturing relationships, building connections, and making the most of them! The easiest way to do this is to curate your social media feeds and only engage regularly with dream clients and people you’ve already connected with.
You don’t always have to focus on bringing in new leads – your attraction marketing content and SEO strategy can do that for you in the background.
If you’re like most introverts, getting new clients can be a daunting task. Make a list of your strengths and focus on selling what you’re good at. Introverts are often very good at analysis and figuring out what someone needs, so using that skill to sell your services can be successful. You don’t always have to do what everyone else tells you. You can focus on your own strengths and use them to your advantage!
