Helping small business owners, virtual assistants, and creative entrepreneurs grow their business.
Hi, I'm Tara! I'm a multi-passionate business and marketing coach.
Self-care is important, especially as an entrepreneur or small business owner.
When you’re starting your own business, you feel you need to work extra hard to get your first clients or buyers. At the beginning of the business you need to set up so many different things, you are learning a lot and therefore it’s hard to step away because work is all you think of and you want it to be successful. The ideas are running through your head, and you want to capture them all. But take a minute and think! Is it worth it to put all your effort and time into your new business? Absolutely yes! Is it worth it to get to the burnout point? Definitely not! Less is sometimes more, but many of us take energy, happiness and our health for granted. But we are not machines, so we do need to slow down from time to time.
So what is the self-care? Self-care is about fostering the relationship and connection you have with yourself on a daily basis. People that look after themselves, have better focus, better concentration and they tend to be more productive.
Taking regular breaks, prioritizing your physical and mental health but also finding time for yourself should be one of the priorities that can help you increase your productivity and get more done in a shorter time! We are working so hard to make sure everything is perfect, and the pressure is high, but sometimes we’re forgetting that we deserve and need our self-care time! Period! There are no buts or what-ifs. It’s a fact! We are living busy and stressful lives, and that’s why we need to adapt some self-care routines that can help us avoid burnout and overwhelming feeling. Here are a few steps toward increased productivity.
Sleep is important for our bodies to function well. Go to sleep and wake up around the same time every day but also ensure that you get enough sleep. Insufficient sleep can be one of the main causes why you can’t concentrate and why everything takes you longer than it should. Planning your day or the week ahead can also help you keep track of all tasks during your day, and it can remind you when it’s time for yourself!
Finding time for exercise whether that’s a morning walk, gym or yoga and will boost your energy and allow your brain to work more efficiently together with eating regularly and healthy. You’ll feel much better to have an established routine that fits you best, however, try to change it around from time to time can help you not feeling stuck in your own routine.
Focus mainly on goals and tasks that you want to invest your time into. Don’t waste your time with things that drain your energy because you will end up being demotivated and most probably only a third of it will get done. Minimize the energy drainers and focus your time and energy into something meaningful that you want to invest your time and attention to. It’s also important to surround yourself with positive people who are supporting and motivating you to do your best!
Each day has only 24 hours, so use it wisely! Balancing work and self-care can be really hard, but we have only so much time during the day. However, prioritize the most important tasks and projects and make the most of each day. Sometimes it’s okay not to do everything you have planned. There is no point trying to do the work if you feel tired, demotivated or uncreative. Rather take a break and re-energize by doing some exercise, walking outside or having some healthy food. Afterwards, you’ll be able to use the time you have better, work more efficiently and effectively.

Investing in yourself is the best investment you can make! Whether that’s learning something new or treating yourself with a yoga class, massage or time with your friends. Your productivity and creativity will increase because you will have time to realign and recharge your batteries!
Allow yourself to spend some time without screens! Most of the day we are on our phones since the moment we wake up until we go to bed! Give your eyes and your brain a break from screens by reading a book, spending time outdoors or with your family/friends. We might feel that phones are making us productive, but the opposite is usually the truth. It’s a time and attention stealer most of the time, even though we don’t realize that. Stepping away from your phone can really help you focus on your work and yourself.
Many people stressing out about past or future but what’s important is the present! The best way to be present is mindful meditation, even if it’s only a few minutes a day. It might seem like a small thing to do but it can have a huge impact on your productivity and improved focus. You will be able to perform better over time, be fully present and enjoy what you do.
Now you know the steps that can help you increase your productivity but what now? Start with small steps, so it will be easier to adjust your current routines. Make time for yourself and add some self-care time into your schedule or calendar. Try different things to see what works best for you. We all are very different and therefore what works for one might not work for someone else. Notice what makes you more focused and productive but also what gives or takes your energy. The most important part is that self-care can benefit you greatly, whether that’s mental or physical health and by practicing self-care you can avoid burnout point.
So what are you waiting for? Put yourself first and increase your productivity by following the above steps! Who is in?
