Hi, I'm Tara! I'm a multi-passionate business and marketing coach.
Want to learn how to attract customers without feeling salesy or pushy? Let’s start with a personal story of my business journey. When I started my first business (a handmade jewelry line in 2007) I struggled to figure out how to market it. I tried all the traditional approaches, but most of them felt inauthentic and draining. One day, instead of pitching my products, I shared the story behind a necklace I’d created. To my surprise, people didn’t just like the necklace — they connected with the meaning behind it.
That’s when I realized: you don’t need to be pushy to attract customers. You just need to show up authentically, lead with value, and focus on building connections. Here’s how you can do it too.
Picture this: you’re scrolling through Instagram, and an ad pops up with flashing colors and “LIMITED TIME OFFER” written all over it. What’s your reaction? For me, it’s an automatic swipe away.
Your audience feels the same. They’re bombarded with marketing messages daily, and they’ve developed a radar for anything that feels forced or insincere. Instead of trying to convince someone to buy, focus on understanding their needs and speaking to their experiences.
For example, I once had a coaching client who was overwhelmed with managing her business systems. Instead of pitching my program directly, I shared a story about how I streamlined my workflows to gain more time for myself. That relatable experience drew her in and made her feel seen.
When I launched my first content toolkit, I didn’t push for sales right away. Instead, I created a free checklist to help my audience get started with their content planning. I shared tips, tools, and encouragement — and the response was incredible. People loved the checklist, and many of them went on to purchase the full toolkit because they already trusted me.
This is the power of leading with value. Think about how you can give your audience a quick win. Maybe it’s a free resource, a helpful video, or even just a heartfelt tip in a social media post. By helping them solve a problem, you become their go-to person.
A few years ago, I received an email from someone who’d been following me for months but had never reached out. She said my blog posts felt like “conversations with a friend,” and that’s what gave her the confidence to book a one-on-one session with me.
This is why relationships are so important. Every piece of content you share is a chance to connect on a deeper level. Instead of focusing on the sale, focus on how you can make your audience feel heard and supported.
When I transitioned from running my jewelry business to becoming a full-time coach, I worried about how people would perceive the shift. But then I started sharing my journey — why I made the change, the struggles I faced, and the lessons I learned. To my surprise, my audience resonated with my vulnerability and honesty.
Your story is your superpower. It’s what sets you apart and makes people want to work with you. Don’t be afraid to show the human side of your business — it’s often what your audience will remember most.
I’ll never forget the first time I received a comment on one of my blog posts that said, “This is exactly what I needed today.” That’s when I realized that content isn’t just about sharing knowledge — it’s about meeting people where they are and helping them take the next step.
Whether you’re writing a blog post, creating a YouTube tutorial, or posting on Instagram, think about your audience’s biggest struggles. What’s one small thing you can share today that will make their lives easier or more inspiring?
One of my favorite moments in business was when a client shared a glowing testimonial about how my course helped her finally organize her business systems. I didn’t even have to ask her to do it — she was so excited about her results that she wanted to share.
Your happy customers are your best ambassadors. Don’t be afraid to showcase their wins, whether it’s through testimonials, case studies, or social media shoutouts. Their success stories are proof that you can deliver results — and they’ll help attract more people who need your help.
A while back, I started a community for introverted entrepreneurs. At first, it was just a handful of members sharing tips and encouragement. But over time, it grew into a thriving community where people felt safe to ask questions, share wins, and connect with others who “got it.”
Building a community isn’t just about adding people to a group — it’s about creating a space where they feel supported and valued. Whether it’s an online forum, a live Q&A, or a casual chat on Instagram, these small moments of connection can make a big difference.
When I redesigned my website, I realized how much easier it was for people to find what they needed. Instead of cluttering the homepage with everything I offer, I focused on making the experience simple and inviting.
Your website is like your online home. Keep it clean, clear, and focused on your audience’s needs. Highlight how you can help them, and make it easy for them to take the next step — whether it’s downloading a freebie, booking a call, or joining your email list.
One of the most rewarding parts of my week is reading replies to my email newsletter. People often tell me how much they look forward to my updates because they feel personal and helpful — not salesy.
If you’re hesitant about email marketing, think of it as a way to build relationships rather than sell. Share tips, behind-the-scenes moments, or even a story about something you learned recently. When you approach email with a mindset of connection, it becomes a natural extension of your brand.
Attracting customers doesn’t have to feel like a performance. By leading with value, sharing your story, and focusing on relationships, you can create a business that aligns with your values and attracts the right people.
Think of marketing as a way to help and connect — not to convince or push. When you approach it with authenticity and heart, you’ll find that your audience will naturally gravitate toward you.
Your dream clients are out there, waiting for what you have to offer. Show up as your true self, and trust that the right people will find their way to you.
