What is the most effective way of driving traffic to your website? Do you use free sources for boosting your traffic or you set up the budget to use the paid ones! There are many different ways of how to expose your content to a wider audience and it’s only up to you which one fits the best for your business. Although you have to understand where your traffic comes from and put more focus into that direction. In this post I will be mainly focusing on the free ways to increase traffic to your website but I will also briefly mention basic one of the paid sources, too! Social Media is definitely one of the best platforms from where you can drive the traffic from! Every platform works differently and talks to a different audience, and therefore you need to optimize your content the right way for every social media channel. Choose the social media that your target audience regularly use and where they are active on the most. But most importantly, make sure your content is shareable, so people can share it further with their audience.
For the creative and visual businesses, Instagram and Pinterest would be the best place to be active on. Instagram can help you drive traffic in many ways! You can invite people to go to the link in bio, ‘AKA’ your website, in your posts, you can link your website to the IGTV videos, you can talk about your website in your stories or if you have more than 10k followers, you can use swipe up feature in your story which might be the most effective and the easiest way of directing people to where you want them to go. Options are there, and I would recommend combining them to reach your goal.
Pinterest is also a great place where you can drive traffic from! Every pin should be linked to your website, making it easy to direct people to the right place. By creating captivating pins that will ask for everyone’s attention, people will click away and it will increase traffic for you.
Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack are more professional platforms where you can share your blog posts and articles depending on what kind of audience you have. All of these platforms also have groups that could be relevant to your business and that you can join and chat with like-minded entrepreneurs. However, make sure that when you become a part of the group, you are actively engaging, building trust and creating good relationships with others. This way you can get a chance to share your website with them and get it in front of more people!
All of these platforms have one thing in common though, and that’s the fact that there has to be a quality content no matter what! If your content is weak, you can promote your website wherever you want, but it won’t get many clicks. Also, please avoid being spammy and post only valuable and relevant content.
SEO is one of the best ways to increase traffic effectively on a long-term basis is to optimize your website content with the help of Search Engine Optimization. SEO is great for attracting your target audience and getting your website high ranking on Google or other search engines. You can optimize various parts of your website like title, URL, meta description and much more. By optimizing these, your website description on Google will be more accurate and people will know what to expect from your website or a blog post.
SEO is also closely connected to internal linking that can be helpful for your search engine ranking. What does that mean? It means that you’re directing people from one page of your website to another page on your website. By using internal linking, people are likely to spend more time on your website but also have an opportunity to read more of your content!
Building your Email List is crucial for your business and it’s one of the ways, how to drive traffic to your website! Imagine that social media would collapse one day and you would lose all your followers! Although, if you have an email list, you are much less likely to lose people who have already signed up to get the updates from you. By creating freebies or sending the newsletter regularly, you can build a great community of people who are actually interested in you and your business but also get that website clicks that you want! Your call to action could be ‘Go to read more about this topic on my blog’ or something similar, to direct people to your website or to your newest blog for more information.
Collaborate with other entrepreneurs/brands who have the same or similar audience like you! Have you ever heard about cross-promoting? Effective way of attracting a new audience to your website by collaborating with brands that attract a similar audience but there is actually no direct competition between you. They can share your content, you can share theirs or you can promote the collaboration you are working on together and that gives your content a big exposure and drives traffic to your website.
Another way could be also guest bloggers or podcast interviews that would be promoted by both parties included in this collaboration and that way you’re increasing your brand awareness and getting it in front of the new audience.
There are many ways of boosting your traffic with the paid resources, but the 2 most common ones would be FB Ads and Google Ads. These ads can be optimized and shown only to the certain type of audience, depending on who you want to reach with your ads. You can set up your budget and even though it might be a bit pricey, it will most likely have a higher reach than your organic activities. However, I would say that it’s good to have a balance between paid and organic and use a combination of both.
Lastly, know your numbers! Check your Google analytics report a few times a week to track how many page views you have, how much time visitors spend on your website, and traffic sources. If you use social media for driving your traffic, you can find out how many website clicks you have in your Analytics or Insights and know which social media you’re getting the most traffic from.
There are a lot of different ways to increase traffic to your website. Every business can have a different source of traffic and that’s why it’s important to know where specifically your audience comes from in order to understand which direction you should focus on.
Some of the best sources to use for increasing traffic are social media, SEO, email lists, collaborations, and paid promotions. All of these have to be optimized differently, and that’s why it’s important to identify your main sources of traffic. Although whichever you focus on, don’t forget to track your statistics and numbers because only that way you can see what’s working or what needs to be revised!
