Helping small business owners, virtual assistants, and creative entrepreneurs grow their business.
Hi, I'm Tara! I'm a multi-passionate business and marketing coach.
Is your business earning some money but you would like to have a passive source of income onside? Amazon is a great choice, especially if you have a blog or website that you can use for promoting Amazon products in your blog posts or articles. The affiliate program is based on commission between 1-10% that you get from each sale that was made through your affiliate link and it can work great if you are recommending products based on your personal experience! People are more likely to buy it if you tell them you were happy with it or someone else you know was. It’s very easy to get started and use these links, so here are some main tips for you to become an Amazon Affiliate.
The very first thing you should do is to make sure that your site gets the consistent traffic otherwise Amazon might kick you out of their affiliate network for low sales.
When you go through the sign-up process for your affiliate links, you can enter websites that you will be using the links on, and Amazon will check the quality of the websites and approve or decline your request. However, before filling up all the details, read the Amazon conditions first because these are important for you to know if you can join the program. Once you’re approved, you can start using your affiliate link. Make sure to include a disclaimer on your site about using affiliate links otherwise you might get into trouble with Amazon and be removed from the program.
When you’re starting off with your affiliate program, it’s a good idea to choose a niche, so you can promote one or two main types of products. It should definitely be related to your blog and what you are writing about because you already understand the subject which makes you more relatable. In the beginning, you want to consider how many competitors there are in your niche and also check what is the percentage payout for your specific niche and adjust your posting according to that.
There are many different networks within but also outside of Amazon which are great to become a part of. By joining these, you can get an extra 6-8% commission boost in sales which will help to increase your passive income. For example, with Skimlinks and with Amazon network, the link will automatically direct you to the right store for your country.
Do the keyword research, seriously! Keywords can help you rank high within your niche, so it’s very important that you understand your SEO and research it to know what to write about and what products you should include that people could be interested in. Try to use long-tail keywords instead of short-tail ones, they are more effective and show people what they are about to read. Posting seasonal content might also help you with better reach.
One of my main recommendations from me would be to get the essential YOAST plugin on your WordPress that can help you manage the site’s SEO.
Promoting your blog post where you use the affiliate links can really help you expand the reach and possibly create more sales. Use your social media, YouTube, or even email marketing for bringing more traffic and engagement to your side. The more people will read it, the higher the chances for your affiliate link to be used are.
Becoming an Amazon affiliate is definitely one of the ways for you to have a side hustle and it’s reasonably easy to set up and use. Ensure you’re following some basic guidelines, use relevant affiliate links in your blog posts or websites, and keep promoting them on the various platforms. If you follow these basic tips, you will boost your side income and people will love that you have recommended something you had a good experience with.
