Helping small business owners, virtual assistants, and creative entrepreneurs grow their business.
Hi, I'm Tara! I'm a multi-passionate business and marketing coach.
Are you satisfied with your current search engine optimization (SEO)? If there is one thing around marketing and SEO trends, it’s a fact that it’s ever-changing. New trends come into play more than a few times a year (sometimes even months), and you should always stay on top of it and learn about new ways how to optimize your site, to avoid being stuck in one place and not ranking on the search engine.
2022 has been a year when we focus on the user experience, quality content (as always), and mobile optimization. We are taking the big picture into consideration and focusing on topics and conversations around it. In order to grow your business, you have to be ready to adjust, experiment, and monitor what people (and GOOGLE) want from you to share and how they want you to share it. I’ve put together a few key trends that you can’t miss! Keep reading for more.
Quality content is the main base for good optimization, but keep in mind you are writing for people, not the search engine. Instead of focusing solely on short-tail keywords (which always used to be the most important and still are to some degree) rather consider the overall topic and the discussion that can be created around it. Understand what your audience is searching for, what would the question be to find your type of content, and what their main struggles are. This way, you will be able to create content that resonates with your audience and it will be found by the right people. It’s all about how well written your content is if it’s easy to understand and if you’re consistent in your brand messaging.
When writing content, don’t forget about the overall structure of the posts/articles. Writing in the logical flow, adding headers and sub-headers to make it even more optimized, can always help to make it more visually appealing and structured. The key is to make it easy for everyone to find what they are searching for.
All these tips will help you optimize your content for topics instead of keywords, and Google will favor your site more if they see that you’ve made it for people, not just for the sake of ranking.
One of the biggest trends of 2022 is putting a lot of effort into UX – user experience. What is this all about, you ask? It’s about people. It’s about making sure the user has an overall great experience from the moment they land on your page and get the initial impression, to browsing the pages and reading your content. Things like your landing pages, or even the experience after they leave your page (relevant ads, marketing).
Google is looking into several measure dimensions on your website (also called Core Web Vitals) that influence your ranking. Some of these are load time, interactivity, and stability of content as it loads. All these things influence user experience and by having it all working as it should, your site will be easy to interact with and people won’t just click out of it.
The good news is that through Google Search Console you are able to pull out a report that will give you insights into how your page is doing from a UX perspective – against Google’s UX ranking signals. It will also give you suggestions on what and how to make improvements. Having this information, you can adjust your site for both mobile and desktop version, and make it more user-friendly if it lacks in any of the areas.
The structure is one thing that our site needs really badly! Finding a way to set up your data to better understand all the pieces cohesively will help users understand how one page relates to another or what is on a particular page. Another part of this is internal linking which allows you to create a content roadmap of related articles, so it’s easier for the user to find relevant content on different parts of your site.
Having different sections for each topic, like using a product page, articles, or ratings helps bots find and understand your pages with better ease, and the search engines will also appreciate it by using it in rich snippets.
Mobile-friendly websites are favored by Google search, and there is no surprise to that. Google wants users to have the best experience, therefore, optimization for mobile is a crucial thing to have nailed down in these digital years. This means building mobile sites first and PC/Desktop version second because you won’t have to optimize for speed later. Easy viewing, good formatting, and optimized content for mobile will help you rank higher in Google search and be more visible.
Having a website not optimized for mobile is (unfortunately) still a standard for many companies, but if your business is in this category, you need to change it NOW. Don’t wait. Yesterday was already late. Most of the traffic on the website comes from mobile devices, so make it a priority to have it user-friendly and mobile-friendly otherwise, users will find the same/similar content elsewhere, and it would be a shame to miss out on all the traffic, wouldn’t it?
Search engine optimization is not only about writing for search engines anymore but more about writing for people and sharing relevant content topics. And when I say topics, I mean the broad topic and the full discussion around it. Think about what people are looking for. Not the specific keywords but rather the full questions they would ask. In 2022 it’s all about content and user experience. Optimize your website, so it’s user-friendly and mobile-friendly. Consider the loading speed, interaction, and how responsive it is. Google Search Console can help you measure your UX and give suggestions for what needs to be improved. Having everything optimized will help you rank higher on search engines and boost your visibility. So are you ready to help your business grow through these SEO trends?
