Instagram engagement is an ongoing process that you need to maintain to create long-term relationships with your community. Social media is called social for a reason, and that’s what engagement is all about. Be social with others, create conversations, express your opinions and engage with your audience!
There are many ways to engage with your audience, but I will give you 3 general (and most common) suggestions to increase your organic engagement.

Engagement is all about creating relationships with your community and showing people you listen to them. The key factor is to interact with your audience and to create conversations, so make sure you reply to comments under every post and get back to all the direct messages in your Inbox in a timely manner. Make an effort in talking to your community and showing you care about what they’re saying! You will be rewarded with their loyalty and more engagement from their side.
Another way to engage is to message back people who answered your stories poll. Ask them why they chose a certain answer or what is their experience with a discussed topic. Create a conversation and reach out to them! All these activities will help you increase your engagement, and it will connect you with people who love your brand and what you do!
Stories are one of the most popular features on Instagram and rightfully so! Around 300 million people are using stories daily and it’s the best source of engagement in 2019! If you are not familiar with it yet, start digging in because using stories is a game changer!
Get creative and show up! Stories have so many great features you can add to your content and it gives you a chance to communicate with the audience and show them the brands’ behind the scenes. Take them with you to an awesome event, product launch or show them how your day looks like! Use a big variety of stickers or polls, tag location, and mention others to help you get more views and more attention to your content.
There are several apps that can help you create good looking stories like StoryArt, Unfold or Canva. All of these have many templates you can use for free to create your own style! And as you know, stories last only 24 hours although you can easily save archived stories to your story highlights and categorize the content with the same theme, so people can watch it again on your profile.
Lastly hashtags! Adding hashtags to your story helps to show it to the wider audience and it creates more engagement. If you don’t like seeing hashtags on your story, you can also hide them behind the image, so they will be invisible but still do the job!
Make your profile interactive and create a two-way conversation! Even though this step is related to the previous one about stories, it’s a separate topic of engagement itself.
There are several spots on Instagram where you can ask your audience questions, but the easiest way is to use your posts and stories for this kind of interaction.
Let’s say every time you’re posting an image, add the question at the end of each caption. This way you are asking people to comment below your post and share their opinions or experiences. You can also ask them to tag their friends who could be interested in your brand, so your engagement will increase!
The second way is using story polls for asking questions which can be a powerful source of engagement for people to express their opinions, and for you to start a conversation with them.
