Hi, I'm Tara! I'm a multi-passionate business and marketing coach.
Have you always wondered how the websites get on the first page of Google search? How do they do it? How could YOU do it for your blog? It’s actually quite simple: SEO blog writing and optimizing your website.
Let me tell you, anyone can do it if you really dive into it and play with the words! If you use the right keywords and optimize your website with SEO plugin, you have a chance to rank high on the Google search, too! Although before I jump into the importance of SEO blog writing, I will explain what SEO means and what you need to know about it!
SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization and it’s all about using the right keywords and key phrases. It can help to make your content more visible to the targeted audience but also drive traffic to your website through the search engines’ organic search results. There are several things to consider when you’re working on your SEO:
First of all, research keywords ideas for posts before you even start writing, to find out what’s the popular ones. For example, Google Trends can give you some inspiration with what keywords are trending right now or write some words or phrases to the Google search and see how many searches they have.
When you already found some keywords or key phrases, make a list of them, so you have a base to start from and brainstorm the topic of the blog post. Although, try to include these words/phrases in the text in a natural way, so focus on the content itself and keywords will fit into it. Avoid overusing keywords because then you might get flagged by Google for posting the same content more than once and it might be removed from the search engine or temporarily hidden!
Optimizing different parts of your website is the key to exposing your content to a wider audience, but it also helps visitors to understand what’s your content about and what they can expect from your blog post when they find it in a Google search.
I would recommend to use strong and effective keywords in the title (headline) and 2-3 long tail keywords/key phrases in the actual posts depending on what your target audience would be normally searching for. Also make sure, your title is not too long and if it is, include the main keywords as first, to make it visible on a search engines!
It can be helpful to incorporate a few phrases to your headings and subheadings, although don’t try to squeeze words into every single one of them! Always have a think about what keywords would your target audience type into the search bar to find what they’re looking for. Therefore, try to be more specific with the words and don’t use general overused key phrases.
Your URL is important! Search engines like Google look at your URL to find out what’s blog post about. Make sure you customize the URL for every post and include some relevant keywords in it. URL is usually the title of the blog post or some main keywords from it.
Do you want people to know instantly what’s your blog post about when it comes up in Google? The answer should be of course I do!
Optimizing your meta description will help with this. Every post’s description can be customized and it should shortly describe what’s your blog post about. This way you give the audience teaser to what to expect, and these few short lines can convince people whether to click. Use it to your best advantage and include 1 or 2 key phrases in it!
Optimizing even images? Yes! Use description for all your pictures to boost your SEO. You can also include text on your image because even though the search engines can’t read the pictures, they can scan the text on it.
That’s right! Sending visitors to different links on your website can be very beneficial for you! They can see more of your content while they’re already on your website and will most likely spend more time on it! By linking internally, you are increasing the validity of your content and that plays into your cards with SEO!
I will also add here repurposing content that can be great for re-polishing old content that is already ranked in the search engine, so it’s easier to have it seen.
The most important part of it all is your SEO plugin! You wouldn’t be able to do most of the things mentioned above if you wouldn’t have it downloaded on your website! There are quite a few different ones on the market but one of the most popular plugins for WordPress is definitely Yoast SEO. A plugin is the easiest way to optimize your blog posts beyond spending hours upon hours researching optimization and SEO best practices (or, hiring someone to do it for you!)
Let me tell you, it is a huge help for driving traffic to your blog because besides all the activities that I already mentioned in the ‘Optimize’ part, it also checks all the way through your content and it gives you suggestions for improvements or it’s even telling you what’s missing – whether you forgot to write meta description or customize your URL. It will automatically score your content and show the green bullet if everything is okay. And in case it’s not, you will know right away!
