Helping small business owners, virtual assistants, and creative entrepreneurs grow their business.
Hi, I'm Tara! I'm a multi-passionate business and marketing coach.
Are you a small business owner who is starting a business or someone who wants to improve the site’s SEO ranking? Using the right tools when doing your SEO is crucial for making a step towards an improved website and a better user experience.
However, there are so many SEO tools out there, so how do you know which one is the best for you? Let me help you! I’ve done the homework for you and I researched several ones that can help you in your business! Here are TOP 6 that I find the most helpful for small businesses like yours!
Google Analytics helps you understand your website and your audience better, so you can improve user experience and have access to many useful reports and data from your site. This free tool does basic site audit and keyword research but you can also see where the site traffic comes from, how visitors use your website and what drives the most sales. Easy-to-use interface and shareable reports make it easy for anyone to dive into the insights and see what’s working and what needs to be revised.
Search Console can be linked with Google Analytics and that’s when these tools become even more powerful and valuable! Search Console gives you an overview of keywords and key phrases that people are using when they find your site, how many people have seen your website in the search results or number of visitors who clicked on your website from the search results. These analytics can help you evaluate whether your SEO is successful or if it needs to be improved but it also shows what people search for that you can take advantage from for your future content!
SEO Quake is a free browser plugin that can show you SEO overview of any website you’re on! That could be your own but also the competitors’ one. Too good to be true?!
Type into this browser extension or a dashboard specific page URL or domain and you will get the full audit of the site with real time metrics and reports including URL comparison metrics, page keyword analysis, ranking on different search engines and much more. You can also compare your page performance to your competitors’ page performance and evaluation of the quality of a site’s on-page and off-page SEO.
Ahrefs has a bold statement on their website and that is:
‘Ahrefs helps you learn why your competitors rank so high and what you need to do to outrank them.’
Who wouldn’t want to know that, right?! Ahrefs is a tool primarily focusing on competitor research and backlink analysis but it also gives you insights on keywords used on the websites. It gives your full site audit (same as SEO Quake), rank tracking, full breakdown of organic and paid search, traffic for any URL, allowing you to see what keywords you’re sharing with competitors, and which ones are unique.
You can get a 7-day trial for $7, and their payment plans start from $99/month. Although if you pay annually, you will get a discount of full two months!
This website crawler helps you locate and see any SEO issues on your site. It takes only a couple of minutes to collect data and get a full audit of your site, highlighting server errors, duplicate content, or broken links. SEO Spider also analyses your page titles, meta descriptions, so you can fix all these issues without having to go through every single website page!
Most of the features come for free, although if you upgrade to the paid version and get advanced analytics, it costs £149 per year.
Moz is all-in-one suite of SEO tools that includes keyword explorer that gives you targeted keywords suggestions and their search volume, SEO rankings tracking, and automatic site crawl that notifies you to any technical issues that your site might have. There are definitely more functionalities that your can use and Moz also has Moz Local version which is great if you have a physical stores in a specific location.
Moz Pro offers a 30-day free trial and monthly payment plans start from $99. If you prefer paying yearly, you can save up to 20%.
My personal favorite tool is SEMRush. It’s a very robust tool but I find it even more powerful than most others. It is pricey with a monthly price tag of $99 per month.
These were the 6 best SEO tools for small businesses. Now it’s only up to you whether you are just starting your business and prefer a free tool that can give you a lot of insight and competitor analysis or an advanced, paid version that provides you with even more in-depth analysis to improve your SEO and rank better than your competitors!
