Helping small business owners, virtual assistants, and creative entrepreneurs grow their business.
Hi, I'm Tara! I'm a multi-passionate business and marketing coach.
When it comes to writing, it isn’t always for everyone. Some are very happy to just be writing in their journals, but others like myself (or returned lovers to writing) would love to write and earn a wage to do so. Even if it is only a bit of extra money here and there. There are several passive income ideas that you can start, if you truly love to write and have a passion for it.
Maybe it is just me, but when I started out freelancing, I was reintroduced to my love of words. The ideas of creativity using the English language (or your native language) to paint that picture.
But, you can’t make an income, can you? Especially if you aren’t a trained journalist? Well, in fact, you can just do that. Whether you make it a primary source of income or a bit of side cash, you can make some income from writing. It’s all in how you approach it. How you look at your options and look at your skill sets to find the appropriate fit.
When you begin to research passive income, it can seem overwhelming and repetitive. Just like any industry, if you do the work, then you can eventually reap the reward. To get you started, there are a great many options to choose from, but here are just a few ways to start with:
If you haven’t noticed, the power of blogging and podcasting is the new norm when it comes to getting your ideas and knowledge out to the masses. It is simpler than writing a book or newspaper article but not much different in any other way. It is simple to start, the biggest thing is to gain a following and when discussing things, you also could find yourself advocating for other companies. That is how you make your income. By being an “influencer” or affiliate partner, you can then start receiving income from each click, like or referral.
Or, you could just take the larger step and instead of waiting for a publisher to find you, you could self publish a book (ebook) on different sites like Amazon for one. That way your material is out there and you are in control of it. It is up to you to advertise it on your own to get folks to purchase but it is definitely something you can do on your own.
Or you could start off smaller, by getting your feet wet by working for another author as a ghostwriter. This is your opportunity to work on content regularly and get used to the flow. Though you cannot advertise that you wrote it (hence the Ghost Writing part) but it does get you better and better at the writing component so that you can write original items of your own and be able to promote them.
These are just a few ways to earn extra passive income, there are more ways but this gives you a jumping-off point. The point is, just start. It doesn’t have to be a huge idea… start small and work your way up. The effort will be worth it.
I would love to hear how else you are earning passive income as a writer! It might give me more ideas!
